Tiered Lace Pantalettes; Antique French Originals
A pair of 19th century natural white fine cotton French pantalettes (aka Victorian bloomers in this country).
Finely worked pin tucked and embroidered inset lace tiered detail at frilled leg hem. The front waistband is shaped with darts, and there is a drawstring casing at the back waistband to adjust the waist. Closes with buttoned plackets to either side. Exquisitely made, all hand done with the tiniest of stitches, and apparently unworn, so in pristine condition. A little embroidered monogram at the front waist.
The pantalettes were the split leg style of the time, a practical solution to wear under the long skirts and petticoats of the era, but to make them more wearable now I have carefully slip stitched them closed by hand. This means they make a lovely alternative to a petticoat under skirts and dresses, or worn with a camisole a delicious set of summer pajamas. The only other adjustment needed for this extremely pretty extant garment was a couple of stitches to secure a tiny catch to the insert lace on one of the leg frills.
All of the small number of original antique garments we offer are very wearable ( with a certain amount of care owing to their age).
The ingredients Please be aware that these unique pieces are genuine antique articles ( 100-150 yrs old) which have had a previous life, so consequently there may be the odd very minor smudge or mark to the surface. These in no way impinge on their beauty, and you can be sure that they do not compromise the integrity of the material. Our original antique garments are carefully selected, with only the most pleasing examples being offered in the online store.
Any area of actual damage or thinning is indicated in the description and is carefully repaired or strengthened as required, in a way that complements the beauty of the original garment. These should be seen as an enhancement to the garment, and a sign of the textile's previous life and history.
This is a deliberate choice to fit in with our ethos of creating beautiful garments with minimal impact on the planet.
