Pierrot Beach Pyjamas : Chamois & Claret

Description

An ensemble that takes inspiration from a variety of sources.... 1920s Pierrots and the aesthetic dress designs of Paul Poiret, Turkish traditional workwear, glamorous 1930s 'beach pyjamas', and even (and this one I admit is obscure!) the silhouette of the faun, half man half goat nature spirit of Roman mythology...

A voluminous double layer fine cotton blouse with full length billowy sleeves gathered into narrow wrist bands that are slightly elasticated so they can be pushed up and worn at 3/4 length.

Long enough to be worn loose or tucked into a waistband if preferred.

A fully adjustable scoop neckline is threaded with a tasselled rouleau drawstring, so it can be worn loose and off the shoulder or drawn in close to the throat. There is a lovely gathered spotty Pierrot frill at the neck edge, cut on the bias to ensure it remains bouncy and full, matched to similar frills at the cuffs.

Both layers are a fine pure cotton in a light chamois tan colour, with a woven wine-red design to the borders and scattered embroidered 'spots'.

The harem pants are inspired by traditional Turkish salvar, with all the volume gathered into the ankle cuffs, and the wide softly elasticated waistband that is also threaded with a tasseled drawstring. Deep patch pockets and seamed panels add pattern and detail. Claret red and tan polka dots are combined with paisley borders and stylised Indian floral block prints, all in light crisp pure cottons. The harem pants are half lined to the knee in the same cotton as the blouse to lend opacity to the translucent printed cotton voile.

Created from carefully selected vintage 100% pure cotton saris.

Sizing As the fit of all these garments is meant to be loose and fluid it provides a fair bit of flexibility on sizing.

I have designated this a medium size. It is graded to a UK 14, but its generous cut means it could work for a wide range of sizes from UK 10-16 depending how loose you like the fit.
Shown on a size UK10 mannequin.

I have given the actual garment measurements below so it is very important you ascertain for yourself how it will work with your own measurements. Remember to double the bust and waist figures to give maximum circumferences, and that these pieces are meant to be loose fitting, so allow a generous amount of room over your particular body measurements where appropriate.

Underarm to underarm (bust) ; 58.5cms / 23”

Waist; 58.5cms / 23”

Closed cuff circumference; 24cms / 9"

 Construction

As with all of the Pavilion Parade Vestments pieces, the quality of the finish is paramount, with French and bound seams throughout (no overlocking) to ensure both a comfortable wear and a long life.

Each of these pieces is created from vintage 100% natural fibre saris. The design is very considered, with the cut engineered to make the best use of the various areas of beautiful block printed or woven design on the sari.  I will spend some hours before cutting trying out different pattern layouts to ensure the most pleasing finished effect.

Care; Whilst it is fine to dry-clean these garments I would always urge a gentle hand wash instead where possible. Or a delicate cycle in the washing machine to best prolong the life and colour. Much better for the environment.

A press with a warm iron on the cotton setting will bring your garment up beautifully, or you can just leave if you prefer a slightly more crushed look.

The ingredients Please be aware that these unique pieces are created from vintage textiles, which have had a previous life, so consequently there may be the odd very minor smudge or tiny catch to the surface of the fabric. These in no way impinge on their beauty, and you can be sure that they do not compromise the integrity of the material. Any little area of actual damage or thinning is repaired with a tiny embroidered patch (one of my favourite features!), and this is always clearly mentioned in the description.

Sustainability Every time a Pavilion Parade piece is purchased a donation is made via Ecologi to fund the planting of a tree and make a positive net contribution to combatting climate change. The trees are environmentally high value and part of gold standard schemes designed and managed to benefit local communities.

Packaging  Garments are dispatched in acid free tissue paper and recyclable cardboard boxes sealed with kraft paper eco tape. These are placed inside pouches for weather protection during transit which are made entirely from an environmentally friendly compostable bio-plastic created from sugar-cane.
