Opera Coat; Tatyana

Description

A substantial capacious rather dramatic tulip coat in the 1920s opera coat style.

Constructed from a length of medium soft furnishing weight cotton. This is a single length from my stash of antique and vintage textiles, a vintage 1980s piece by Monkwell fabrics called Tatyana. It’s a delightful reproduction 19th century Indienne featuring the typical luxuriant florals and exotic birds of the period.

Fully lined in a neutral coloured wide striped open-weave cotton, with enclosed French seam construction throughout for durability. The high neck and pockets are lined in silk for comfort.

A high funnel collar throws back to those glamorous  Poiret style coats, and the overlapping front closes with a pair of very large hand carved wooden buttons, original to the era.
Deep patch pockets and the panelled tulip shape construction gives interesting detail.

The ingredients Please be aware that these unique pieces are created from antique and vintage textiles, which have had a previous life, so consequently there may be the odd very minor smudge or pilling to the surface. These in no way impinge on their beauty, and you can be sure that they do not compromise the integrity of the material. Our textiles are cleaned and checked for flaws prior to making, and we cut around any significant marks.
Any area of actual damage or thinning is repaired with a tiny embroidered patch using a visible mending technique (one of my favourite features!), and this is always clearly mentioned in the description. These should be seen as an enhancement to the garment, and a sign of the textile's previous life and history.

This is a deliberate choice to fit in with our ethos of creating beautiful garments with minimal impact on the planet.

IMPORTANT: Please be sure to read both our shipping and refund policy pages before placing an order (links to both at foot of page). By placing an order you are indicating you have read and accepted these terms.

Sizing As the fit of all these garments is meant to be loose and fluid it provides a fair bit of flexibility on sizing.

For this particular coat, I have designated it a medium. However the relaxed fit and loose open front style means that it could work very well for a range of sizes.

I have given the actual garment measurements below so you can ascertain for yourself how it will work with your own measurements. Remember to double these figures to give maximum circumferences, and that these pieces are meant to be loose fitting, so allow a generous amount of room over your particular body measurements

Underarm to underarm, laid flat; 56cms / 22”

Waist, laid flat; 61cms / 24”

 Upper sleeve width; 23cms / 9”

The trees are environmentally high value and part of gold standard schemes designed and managed to benefit local communities.

Packaging Garments are dispatched in acid free tissue paper and recyclable cardboard boxes sealed with kraft paper eco tape. These are placed inside pouches for weather protection during transit which are made entirely from an environmentally friendly compostable bio-plastic created from sugar-cane.
